MSM:
Joint Flexibility and other benefits of MSM

MSM (the abbreviation for methyl-sulfonyl-methane)
is a special biological sulfur found in all plants, soils,
fruits, vegetables and meats. MSM is extremely important
to human beings and all other forms of life because it
provides a unique dietary source of sulfur that we must
have in order to function. MSM is also called Organic
Sulfur.
DO NOT confuse it with the toxic, inorganic medicinal
sulfur compounds or sulfites used on salad bars or sulfur
dioxide used on some dried fruits. These inorganic sulfur
compounds are toxic and may cause allergic reactions in
many people.
Why do we need MSM?
Why do we need sulfur? Unknown to most of us, sulfur is
one of the five basic elements of life. Sulfur is so critical
to the formation if connective tissue that without it
we would literally be shapeless pools of protoplasm! Sulfur
also provides the chemical links that create collagen
and keratin needed for beautiful, healthy skin, hair and
nails. Sulfur is an activator of thiamine, Vitamin C,
biotin, pantothenic acid. Sulfuris used by the liver to
manufacture bile, a key element in digestion and is an
important component in insulin production. Sulfur also
is essential in maintaining the body's crucial acid/alkaline(pH)
balance. For all these reasons and more we need an abundant
supply of sulfur.
But as scientists have found, the depletion of our soils
and the heatand processing used in food preparation destroy
or greatly reduce MSM levels in our fruits, vegetables
and meats. Research has also shown that MSM levels decrease
with age, resulting in symptoms of fatigue, tissue, and
organ degeneration and increase susceptibility to disease.
Fortunately, researchers have now developed MSM as a dietary
supplement and have used it in research studies with extraordinary
results!
Can't
repair joints without Sulfur
Collagen can't be made in the body unless sulfur is
present, so this means your joint cartilage can't be
repaired without sulfur (MSM supplementation).
Unfortunately, synthetic fertilizers used today don't
contain sulfur, so it isn't replaced in the soil. What
little MSM that is available in vegetables, meat, and
milk is lost in cooking becuase heat destroys MSM. Pasteurization
is the heating of milk.)
MSM as a dietary supplement has been noted to help with
the following: improvement of joint flexibility, reducing
stiffness and swelling, improving of circulation, reducing
pain in systemic inflammatory disorders such as arthritis,
reducing scar tissue, and breaking up calcium deposits.
You
Use It Up Every Day
The human body would use up as much as 750 mg of MSM
each day, if it were available! Good health practices
involve replacing essential substances that our bodies
naturally use up or lose through illness or abuse. MSM
is a natural form of organic sulfur found in all living
organisms, and is present in low concentrations in our
body fluids and tissues.
Found In Fresh Foods Only
It is found in a variety of fresh foods, including
fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and milk. Unless your
diet is composed primarily of raw foods, it is unlikely
that you are receiving enough MSM for proper health
management.
When we process our foods with heat or drying, we lose
most of the MSM that is vital to our well-being. MSM
supplementation helps our bodies utilize the vitamins
that we take, providing the means to derive the maximum
benefit from them.
The question might arise as to whether the MSM, taken
as a supplement, will be as effective as the MSM contained
in fresh foods. Fortunately, a study was done on just
that, and it showed that MSM does get absorbed by the
body tissues when taken as a supplement.
Without the proper amount of MSM in our bodies, the
amino acids will continue to build the glands, but fail
to produce the correct enzymes, making us prone to unnecessary
illness.
Sulfir as found in MSM is the flexible bond between
proteins. When a cell dies, a new cell takes its place.
Without the needed amount of MSM, it attaches but becomes
rigid.
When tissues lose their flexibility, problems develop
with the lungs and other parts of the body.
MSM supplemetation helps detoxify the body and increases
blood circulation.
Because there are few nerves in the bones, our pain
comes from the soft tissue. MSM supplementation helps
take out the inflammation, permits the muscles to heal
and prevents them from becoming sore. If you play sports
or work-out in a gym and normally get sore muscles the
next day, take 1 heaping teaspoon (about 5 grams) of
MSM before exercise and you will notice a difference.
If taken after exercise, the soreness will go away faster.
Ulcers
MSM helps control acidity in the stomach, so it can
help ulcers. MSM coats the intestinal tract so parasites
lose their ability to hang on. They are then flushed
away. This could prevent colon problems.
MSM is no more toxic than water. It can never hurt anyone.
If you overdose, the extra MSM becomes inert and just
passes through your system. MSM has one side effect...your
fingernails and hair will grow faster and become stronger.
This is because there is more MSM in hair and nail cells
than in any other part of the body. You need a little
extra MSM every day to promote good health.
Sulfur is a mineral found in rather high concentrations
in our body tissues. About half of the body's total
sulfur is concentrated in the muscles, while the other
half is found in the brain, hair, skin and bones. Sulfur
comprises 0.25 percent of our body weight.
Sulfur - The Protein Building Block
Sulfur has a vital relationship with protein, since
sulfur is found in the amino acids methionine, cystine,
and cysteine. Thus, these amino acids are known as the
sulfur bearing amino acids which are considered the
building blocks of protein.
The sulfur-bearing amino acid methionine is absolutely
essential to health! This means it must be supplied
by live food, or the food supplement MSM. My oral chelation
formula, of course, contains both cysteine and methionine.
When you are deficient in these amino acids, your muscles
and body will weaken. If you take "enough"
you get a strong body. If you take "too much,"
the extra cysteine, for instance, will be used to get
rid of toxic metals in the body. So, it's rather hard
to take "too much" of these sulfur amino acids.
The MSM won't do the same thing as cysteine, but your
body can manufacture cysteine for cell building out
of the MSM that you give it.
So, MSM is a vital nutrient that you should have in
your daily dietary intake.
A lack of proper protein in our diet, therefore means
a lack of the vital organic sulfur necessary for good
health. Proteins contain sulfur, while carbohydrates
and fats do not.
Sulfur is necessary for collagen synthesis. Collagen
is an insoluble fibrous protein found in vertebrates.
It is the dominant component of connective tissue and
bones. Sulfur operates as a synthesizer and activator
with the B vitamins, thiamin, vitamin C, biotin, and
pantothenic acid, all of which are needed for metabolism
and healthy nerves.
Sulfur plays an important part in tissue breathing,
the process whereby oxygen and other substances are
used to build cells and release energy.
